Cengage Gives Students Access to 20K+ Digital Learning Products in New Subscription

By Danni White on December 6, 2017

Education and technology company Cengage recently announced a major shift from traditional publishing forms in its new initiative, Cengage Unlimited, via a press release. The new subscription service is an effort to improve access to learning for students and decrease student costs for buying and using course materials. It is the first such service offering students a complete and on-demand access to multiple digital learning platforms, online homework and study tools, and ebooks.

The new service will give students access to nearly 700 courses in over 20,000 products across 70 different disciplines for just $119.99 per semester, no matter how many or how often materials are used. For 12 months of access, the cost is $179.99. For two years access upfront, the cost is $239.99. For many students who take several courses each semester using Cengage materials, the savings could be exponential when compared to buying elsewhere or even renting.

“High costs are limiting too many students from being able to access and succeed in their learning. Students are either spending hundreds of dollars a year on materials, or else put off buying them altogether because they can’t afford them. And, for many students who do find a way, it is because they are taking on student loan debt that will impact them for years, ” said Michael Hansen, CEO of Cengage. “With Cengage Unlimited, students finally have an alternative to the traditional and costly approach of paying for each course’s materials individually. We are taking unprecedented action to break down cost barriers and end the cycle of students having to choose between course materials they can afford and the results they want.”

Starting in August 2018 (just in time for the Fall semester), students can begin subscribing to Cengage Unlimited. After paying the subscription fee which includes subscriptions to digital learning platforms WebAssign and MindTap, students will have digital access to materials from authors such as the late mathematician James Stewart and the economist Gregory Mankiw.

“Cengage Unlimited underscores how students are the primary focus of everything we do at Cengage. Knowing that cost is among the highest hurdles facing students, we embarked on a very deliberate path to find a solution. A subscription to Cengage Unlimited gives students access to all of our best-in-class authors and learning products at significantly lower cost than they might pay otherwise,” said Fernando Bleichmar, EVP and Chief Product Officer at Cengage. “Today’s announcement shows how Cengage can quickly scale and adapt to customers’ needs, and how we are best-positioned to be the catalyst for change in our industry.”

Cengage’s compelling price points make it both attractive and unbeatable for students and faculty alike. For more information, visit Cengage.com/Unlimited.
